It was developed by Jon Kabatt-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Today it is taught worldwide to hundreds of thousands of people for a wide variety of reasons. MBSR is supported by a wide body of research showing that it is effective at addressing chronic pain, anxiety, depression, stress and generally improve well being. Mindfulness is an extremely powerful approach to help us live the lives we truly want, rather than the lives that our thoughts and emotions dictate. Mindfulness is the art of living consciously; It is about stepping out of autopilot and becoming aware; aware of how we have evolved and how our brains are wired genetically and urge us to behave. We also become aware of how we through life have picked up habits and patterns of thinking and behaving. This awareness give us the ability to consciously choose different ways of responding to life’s challenges. Mindfulness is part of the so-called ‘third wave’ of behavioral therapies in Western psychology, which offers a radically different approach; it does not actually try to get rid of all the difficult and unpleasant thoughts and emotions in life. Instead, it recognizes them as a natural part of life which we can learn to manage – and learn from. However, it is not a quick fix. But thanks to the neuroplasticity of our brain, we can physically rearrange our neurological pathways and our response-patterns in the brain through regular practice. In other words, just like we regularly exercise our body to improve our physical health, mindfulness teaches us how to flex the mind for optimal mental health. Schedule: Session 1 What is Mindfulness? Session 2 Gathering the scattered mind Session 3 What is Stress: patterns of reactivity Session 4 Coping with Stress and Difficulties: responding vs reacting Session 5 Mindful of Thoughts Session 6 Mindful of Emotions Session 7 Cultivating Compassion Session 8 A Mindful Life After signing up to this course, you will receive an invite from the teacher for a 30 min pre-course interview (usually over the phone or Zoom). This will ensure that you feel safe and we know that it is the right time for your to learn mindfulness.
