Pilates
What it's like
Mat-based, no machines. You'll work through a sequence of controlled exercises, mostly lying, seated or side-lying, with close attention to alignment and breath. The movements are small. That's not a gentler version of something bigger; precision is the method, and a well-executed small movement is harder than a sloppy large one. Expect clear, specific instruction, and expect to feel it somewhere you weren't expecting.

Why people practice this?
Core strength is the headline, but control is what people actually gain. Pilates trains you to move one part of your body without recruiting everything else, which is harder and more useful than it sounds.
Posture changes noticeably. Weeks of working on alignment while lying down transfers to how you stand and sit without you having to think about it.
And it's remarkably kind to bodies that don't tolerate impact. Strength gets built without loading joints, which is why it's so often recommended after injury.
Is this for you?
You'll get on with Pilates if you:
• Want core strength without gym equipment
• Have back or posture issues to work around
• Prefer precise instruction to freeform movement
• Are rehabbing and need something low-impact
No experience needed. Pilates is taught by instruction rather than imitation, so beginners tend to do well immediately.

Questions people ask
Do I need to be fit?
No. You build the strength by doing the class. Teachers give lighter and heavier options throughout.
Will it help my back?
Often yes, since much of the work supports the spine. It isn't treatment though, so check with a professional if you're in pain.
Mat or reformer?
Mat Pilates, on the floor with small props. We don't have reformer machines.
Do I need experience?
No. Most classes are open to all levels and teachers give options.
What should I wear?
Anything you can move in. Classes are barefoot, and props are provided.
Do I need a mat?
No. Mats and props are provided. Bring your own if you prefer.
How do I book?
Website or the Fit by Wix app, code NCL5XG. You'll need a pass or card first.
