Alignment Technique

Fanny Alavoine

What it's like

An hour of flowing movement, but with pauses. You'll move through familiar sequences, then stop to explore how a variation changes what you feel, shifting a foot, adjusting a hand, altering an angle. Expect to be asked questions rather than given instructions. The teacher's job here is to help you notice, not to correct you into a shape. You'll play with modifications constantly, and leave with two or three specific things to take into your other classes.

Why people practice this?

Most people carry compensation patterns they've never noticed, one hip that does more work, a shoulder that lifts to help. This class finds them. The payoff is efficiency. Once you stop bracing where you don't need to, poses that felt like hard work start to feel available, and practice becomes something you can sustain for decades rather than years. It's also the class that makes every other class better. People come back to Vinyasa afterwards and find their chaturanga has quietly changed.

Is this for you?

You'll get on with Alignment Technique if you:
• Have practised a while and something still doesn't feel right
• Keep getting the same niggle in the same place
• Want to understand the why, not just follow along
• Are building towards a practice that lasts Newer to yoga? It's a good early class, learning alignment before habits set is easier than unlearning it later.

Questions people ask

Will it help my back?

Often yes, since much of the work supports the spine. It isn't treatment though, so check with a professional if you're in pain.

Is this physiotherapy?

No, it's movement teaching rather than treatment. See a physio for anything specific.

Can I come injured?

Often yes, but tell your teacher first so they can adjust.

Isn't it just stretching?

No. Stretching targets muscle. Yin relaxes it so the load reaches connective tissue.

Do I need experience?

No. Most classes are open to all levels and teachers give options.

Do I need a mat?

No. Mats and props are provided. Bring your own if you prefer.

How do I book?

Website or the Fit by Wix app, code NCL5XG. You'll need a pass or card first.
